Watch a Helix Piercing Experience

The helix piercing is a timeless favorite for a reason. Sitting on the upper outer edge of the ear, it’s subtle enough to wear solo yet versatile enough to pair with multiple piercings. Whether you’re going for minimalist charm or building a bold ear curation, the helix is a perfect place to start—or expand.

What Is a Helix Piercing?

A helix piercing is placed through the cartilage along the upper rim of your ear. This area is ideal for a variety of styles—from a single, sleek stud to a series of piercings like a double or triple helix. Once healed, it’s a prime spot for both dainty rings and eye-catching barbells. Image is for placement reference only. We start every helix with a straight post and have hundreds of jewelry options in that style. Hoops can be worn once fully healed.

What to Expect When Getting Pierced

  1. Consultation & Jewelry Choice – We’ll evaluate your anatomy and help you choose the right starter jewelry. Only implant-grade titanium and 14k or 18k gold are used for safe healing.
  2. Sanitization – The area is thoroughly cleaned and prepped to minimize infection risk.
  3. Placement Marking – We mark the exact spot and have you approve it before proceeding.
  4. The Piercing – A sterile, single-use needle creates the piercing in a quick motion. Expect a brief pinch and pressure.
  5. Jewelry Insertion – Your selected jewelry is gently inserted and secured immediately.
  6. Aftercare Walkthrough – You’ll receive step-by-step aftercare instructions, verbally and in writing, to guide your healing.

Healing Your Helix Piercing

  • Healing Timeline: Typically 6–12 months, sometimes longer depending on your body and care routine.
  • Normal Healing Signs:
    • Tenderness & slight swelling in the first few weeks.
    • Clear or pale discharge that dries around the jewelry (natural healing fluid).
    • Lingering sensitivity for several months as the cartilage fully repairs.

Key Aftercare Tips

  • Clean Twice Daily – Mist with sterile saline solution and let air-dry (or use a cool hair dryer). Avoid cotton swabs that leave fibers.
  • Hands Off – Don’t touch, twist, or rotate the jewelry. This is why we start with a straight post; hoops are for after healing.
  • Avoid Snagging – Be careful when brushing hair, dressing, or using headphones.
  • Sleep Smart – Try not to sleep on the pierced side. A donut or travel pillow can help reduce pressure.
  • Stay Out of Water – Skip pools, hot tubs, and baths until healed. Showers are fine—just rinse with saline and let air-dry.
  • Be Patient – Healing takes time. Always consult your piercer before changing jewelry.
